In NetHack, you may encounter some unexpected messages while hallucinating. The following is a comprehensive list of all available hallucinatory messages.

All appearances of "<color>" will be replaced with one of the following| ultraviolet, infrared, bluish-orange, reddish-green, dark white, light black, sky blue-pink, salty, sweet, sour, bitter, striped, spiral, swirly, plaid, checkered, argyle, paisley, blotchy, guernsey-spotted, polka-dotted, square, round, triangular, cabernet, sangria, fuchsia, wisteria, lemon-lime, strawberry-banana, peppermint, romantic, or incandescent. The word "poohbah" also replaces every instance of "priest".[1]

You quaffed a potion of object detection or cast the spell of detect treasure.[17]
You get the heebie jeebies.
You quaffed a potion of monster detection or cast the spell of detect monsters without any monsters on the level, while not a beginner.[18]
You hear a voice say, "It's dead, Jim."
You applied a stethoscope down at a corpse.[19]
You produce a normal whistling sound.
You applied a non-cursed (or cursed, half of the time) magic whistle.[20]
Yow! The mirror stares back!
You applied a mirror to yourself, while polymorphed into a floating eye.[21]
You look <color>.
You applied a mirror to yourself, while not polymorphed into a floating eye, umber hulk, or any V.[22]
You give the fish a chance to fix their makeup.
You applied a mirror in a direction while underwater.[23]
You suddenly feel trippy.
You became confused via a cursed unicorn horn.[24]
Oh, wow, look at the pretty shards.
You destroyed a gem by rubbing it against a cursed touchstone while not blind.[25]
Oh wow, man: Fractals!
As above, with a non-cursed touchstone.
You give yourself a facial.
You applied a cream pie.[26]
Your body takes on a normal transparency…
You invoked an artifact to become invisible, or ate a ring of invisibility.[27] [28]
A normal force teleports you away…
You were killed by a falling drawbridge, but were lifesaved.[29]
<Monster> drinks the <lava/moat> and disappears.
A monster was forced into the moat/lava by the drawbridge and died.[30]

All you see is funky <color> haze.
You applied an uncharged crystal ball while not blind.[32]
Whoa! Psychedelic colors, <dude/babe>!
You grok some groovy globs of incandescent lava.
The crystal pulses with sinister <color> light!
You see goldfish swimming above fluorescent rocks.
Oh wow... like a kaleidoscope!
You see tiny snowflakes spinning around a miniature farmhouse.

You dug up a grave, creating a zombie.[39]

There is a <color> flash as <object> hits the altar.
You dropped an object that was either cursed or blessed on an altar.[41]

You are surrounded by twisty little passages, all alike.

You arrive on a level you forgot due to amnesia.[42]

You feel centered in your personal space.

You gained telepathy.[53]
You tawt you taw a puttie tat!
You lost see invisible.[54]
You can't resist the temptation to mimic an orange.
You ate a mimic corpse.[55]
You suddenly dread being peeled and mimic <race> again.
Your mimicking timeout ended.[56]
You feel rather trippy.
You became confused via eating rotten food.[57]

The <hair> on your <head> seems to stand up.

History

In NetHack 3.3.0 and earlier versions, including some variants based on those versions, the following messages were produced for warning:

You mood ring glows <color>.
You are wearing a ring of warning.[141]
Your spider-sense is tingling…
You have intrinsic warning.[142]

Other unused messages
